Best Man

Adeleke Oni

“High Class Fridays,” a collaboration between myself and Luis Muniz, was a classy endeavor during which he and I bought some “high class” alcohol and partook in a Friday of nice college drinking. This endeavor was hosted on what we called “The Penthouse Level,” known by not as cool people as the 6th Floor of Kuhlman Hall at Xavier University. One of such functions witnessed Mr. Adeleke Oni, and our friendship was forged. That night ended with giving up my car keys and wallet while at “Soupies” being a responsible college student. On top of that, and while walking home, I learned that the guy that had my keys was none other than Mr. Adeleke Oni. This education/realization came as he drove past me back to campus. (Nope, he did not offer to pick me up)

Like many college students, our friendship was forged in living the “college-life,” but was deepened in our deciding to join Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc together in the Fall 2005. After a long and arduous “application period,” finally getting a decision on March 11, 2006, I realized that Leke is the type of friend that I need to not only keep me on the “straight and narrow,” but also as a thought partner for most important decisions I have made over the past 10+ years. (Yep, he was the first person to know of my plans (undeveloped at that) to propose to “My Peace.”) There are not many people that truly understand me and my craziness (i.e. the reason behind my fraternal namesake “Havoc”). Throughout our brotherhood, Leke has been someone that I have come to trust (in most cases more than I trust myself), and for this reason he is my Best Man.

The theme of our wedding, “A Return to Love,” does not exclude my wedding party. (No Richard) Leke, you have fully exemplified what it means to be “my brother’s keeper.” Your example has been one that I have followed since our college days, (college parties, beer pong, long nights awaiting a response from Alpha, Carter Avenue, leaving the money box after Black and Gold, “Bro-Trips” in Detroit, New Orleans, Knoxville, Vegas, Houston, Memphis, Nashville, Durham, rocking out to Coldplay in Philly) all the way through proposing in Juneau, Alaska. You truly are a servant leader, and someone that models gentlemanly, scholarly, and rockstarly living through and through. Thank you for your example and always having my back. I appreciate you more than you know.
